HEARST CASTLE COLLECTION
Left to right: 2647 - Mola is a Signature Exclusive (far left) Hearst Castle Sunbrella Indoor/Outdoor pattern. Mola was inspired by one of many molas found in the archives of Hearst Castle. On one of William Randolph Hearst’s sailing trips, he sailed ship, the Oneida, through the Panama Canal. The Kuna Indians from the San Blas Islands of Panama create this rich and colorful textile art utilizing a reverse appliqué technique. This mola design reflects the influences of the modern world with the traditional Kuna culture. Some mola designs are inspired by graphics seen on political posters, labels, advertisements, etc, incorporated into the traditional themes from Kuna legends and culture. Our version of Mola is woven with Sunbrella 100% solution dyed all-weather acrylic yarns. Mola is available in eight colorways and is shown in Caliente. 2644 - Alameda is a Signature Exclusive (striped fabric second from left) Hearst Castle Sunbrella Indoor/Outdoor stripe. Alameda was inspired by one of the original saddle blankets found in the archives of Hearst Castle, well used to saddle up in William Randolph Hearst’s horse stable. This blanket was hand woven by tribal Indians from hand spun wool yarn is a classic example of a simple stripe saddle blanket. Our version of Alameda is a gorgeous railroaded stripe woven with performance Sunbrella 100% solution dyed all-weather acrylic yarns. The heavy weave structure utilizes a full face rep weave to emulate the original hand-loomed look. Alameda is available in eight colorways and is shown in Caliente. 2648 - Mudejar is a Signature Exclusive (third from from left) Hearst Castle Sunbrella Indoor/Outdoor pattern. Mudejar was inspired by tiles found in the archives of Hearst Castle. These tiles were originally from Spain dating back to 16th century Mudejar. The Mudejar style came about when Moorish influences mingled with Western influence to create repetitive design elements. Our version of Mudejar is woven with Sunbrella 100% solution dyed all-weather acrylic yarns. Pastiglia was inspired by an original drawing by Julia Morgan, Hearst’s architect and designer. Julia Morgan, the first woman architect to receive a certificate in architecture graduated from the prestigious Ecole of Paris. Julia Morgan worked side by side with William Randolph Hearst on every detail of the castle for 28 years. This drawing, depicting an architectural detail is known as a pastiglia, was given for the craftsmen to follow. Our version of Pastiglia is a beautiful medallion design with a raised surface weave and attention to detail. Woven with performance Sunbrella 100% solution dyed all-weather acrylic yarns, Pastiglia is classic and elegant, as well as usable for indoor and outdoor use.
